How to Help

Our dream is that every guest who visits this page desires to make a difference. You are philanthropic and look to help others who work hard, but who don’t necessarily have the tools to help themselves. The students and staff of Rockhill Academy value you. We could not be successful if it were not for the generous donations and acts from our community, from people like you. If you are interested in helping our residents, please select from the tabs below to learn more. Your kindness is appreciated and will help us to change and improve the lives of adults with a chronic mental illness.

Volunteers

Rockhill Academy is seeking volunteers who can assist with our mission to provide students with the resources and education to live more independent lives.

Volunteers are welcome to serve as guest teachers for our Life Skills courses (such as music, arts and crafts, budgeting, knitting or health related topics), tutors for reading and other basic subject classwork, and laborers or workers for our annual social events.

Upon submittal, a representative of Rockhill Academy will contact you within 3-5 business days to confirm details and provide you with our HIPAA document. Thank you.

Provide Entertainment

Rockhill Academy is seeking donated entertainment for on-site social events at Rockhill Manor, as well as off-site community excursions.

We can accommodate up to 200 residents for entertainment at our facility. Or, we will provide bus service for off-site excursions, which can accommodate up to 11 residents.

Past entertainment donations have included instrumentalists, vocalists, unique acts or services (such as puppetry, magic, science demonstrations, caricatures, chair massages, face painting, and storytelling), tickets to sporting events, theatre tickets, and destination tours to parks, museums, zoos, and galleries. We welcome all donations.

Regarding spiritual services, we typically are very booked with these services due to the many generous local churches in our area. Therefore, at this time, we are declining additional offers for spiritual services and prayer groups.

Clothing Center

Rockhill Academy accepts clothing donations for its students and all other residents of Rockhill Manor.

When you donate clothing to Rockhill Academy, you are directly benefiting adults who have been diagnosed with a chronic mental illness. Due to the ongoing nature of the illness, many of these adults are indigent, and rely on your donations for their apparel. We do not sell or redistribute clothing donations. All donations that are appropriate and in good condition go directly to our residents.

We are currently accepting new or nearly-new and cleaned clothing, belts, accessories, coats, and shoes for adults in all sizes. Our men and women are all ages, ranging from young adult to those advanced in years. Sportswear and casual clothes are particularly in demand. Since most of the donated items are distributed quickly, it is helpful to limit donations to clothing that is in season. Coats are accepted year-round. Donated undergarments and socks must be new.

Please contact Ryan Hovendick at 816.872.3927 for the drop-off location and hours of operation. Rockhill Academy is a qualified 501(c)(3) charity for tax-deductible donations. You can check the IRS database of qualified charitable organizations.
